When Lucas Michailidis put together an ensemble of 25 guitarists for a theatre performance, it gave him a new idea - a fellowship of guitarists driven by a shared obsession of music.  And the Melbourne Guitar Lab was born.

The Melbourne Guitar Lab aims to diversify the landscape of music education. It offers intensive programs by industry-successful players in face-to-face workshop environments. “It’s a more responsive model of education which can easily adapt to the needs of a group or the industry” says Michailidis.

The Labs focus on improving skills, provoking genuine creativity and fostering a community of players. “Guitar is a hugely popular instrument, yet many skilled people (who are not professional or in formal education) don't find avenues to share their playing."

Since it’s inception in 2016, the Melbourne guitar Lab has presented approximately 20 Labs including: The Jazz sessions, The Advancing Guitarist, The Winter Masters Series and Alexander Technique for Guitarists. Notable presenters have included Frank Gambale, Doug De Vries, Slava Grigoryan and Brett Garsed.
